obabscribblerI only have like, 5 stories to choose from (and that's cheating a little to count BMF, cause it's still ongoing and the most recent chapter was posted this year).
Favorite story this year: Hard to pick a favorite. I think it's probably a toss up between
Break My Fall and
Identity Crisis, though. I've worked the hardest and struggled the most with them, but in the end have been pleased at where I ended up.
My best story this year: It's another tie, I think.
Break My Fall, because even though I started it last year in 2006, it's still being updated, and the way I've managed to juggle two ships for most of it, and now building up a third makes me quite pleased with myself. And
Identity Crisis, because Abby and Dubenko are not characters or a ship that I usually write, but somehow I managed to do well enough to please the fans of them that I know (who are tough critics) and leave them wanting me to write more than just the first chapter. I'll consider that an accomplishment and rise to the challenge.
Most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I don't really know; I don't write for appreciation, so people not liking my stuff has never been a major concern. I write because I have stories to tell and my muses won't shut the hell up till I write them. :P But
A Break in the Routine doesn't have any reviews, even though it has 40+ hits. So that one, I guess. I'm pretty pleased with it, personally speaking. I like the banter I managed to get down at the end, and the way I got into Bee's head for most of it.
Most fun story: It's a toss up between
Cold Water Wash and
A Break in the Routine. I really love writing UST, so it was fun to do.
Sexiest story: Gonna have to say
Identity Crisis, cause it's the only story I wrote this year with any smut in it. :P But
Cold Water Wash is a close second (Ray's imagination in overdrive upon seeing Neela's undergarments? Yeah, that'll do), with
A Break in the Routine coming in third for the UST bit near the end.
"Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I don't really have one. I mean, I guess you could say
Identity Crisis, cause I don't typically write outside my ship (Dave/Abby, FTW.) And I'm sure some people saw it on their Flists and did a double take, but there wasn't anything actually
wrong about it. There was part of
Safety Net with Rebecca's thoughts about the way Webb dealt with her that was pretty disturbing and wrong, but it's nowhere the show didn't heavily hint at going.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Identity Crisis again. I have hated Abby with a passion for a good number of years, but somehow I was able to get in her head for this one and sort of figure her out.
Hardest story to do: Identity Crisis (Are we sensing a pattern here?) If only because Dubenko was a challenge to write and stay in character with. It's not the kind of character I'm used to working with and it's not a character I was terribly comfortable with before starting the story. I'm still not totally comfortable with him, but I'm getting there.
Biggest surprise: And yet another award for
Identity Crisis. I'm a Dave/Abby shipper from way back, and once I find a ship I love
get obsessed with I tend to stick with it. And also, it's the first ER fic I've written since getting back into the fandom that didn't have Ray/Neela in it as a major plot or primary subplot. But that's going to change, lol. Cause I'm weaving them into it but writing that part of it as a separate story, so my Dubby readers that don't ship Roomies don't have to read through it. (You didn't
really think I'd be able to manage to write an ER fic that didn't have
something to do with Roomies, did you?
Me? Come on now, let's don't be silly. :P)
Most revealing story: I don't really know. I don't think any of them reveal too much about me, except maybe that I am an obsessed fan. But you guys already knew that. ;)
A story I want remembered: Break My Fall, cause it's the one I've done the most work on. It's been stewing in my head since S11 of ER. (We're on S14 now, just for reference.) And it was late S12 before I even started writing it. I've got so many ideas and such big plans for it, and I've put in so much time plotting and planning and researching, and trying to make it a good story. I won't mind at all if it becomes the story people most associate me with.
